After the pup is proficient at sitting calmly while the trainer turns and walks quickly away for ten feet and pauses for ten to twenty seconds before returning to pay, it is time to move the drill to a new location and add some variations. The most important variation is to reinforce the behavior of sitting calmly in the face to increasing distraction. The major distractor to tackle will be that of falls of retrievable objects. The next step will be steadiness.
