60 Seconds With Linn & Blumenthal

‍April 29, 2026

The very fine gunmaker, Al Ljutic, described a good analogy. He said to think of driving an automobile on a winding road at high speed. You would be looking through the windshield at the oncoming traffic and road. You would not be looking down the end of the hood of the car or at the ground immediately in front of you. You would be looking at the target, the road off in the distance, and would take in everything closer to you in the same field of vision.

This tip came from the book “Finding the Extra Target – The Ultimate Training Guide for All the Clay Target Sports” by John Linn & Stephen Blumenthal.

Wing & Barrel Ranch is the Premier Hunting and Sporting Club in California Wine Country

Wing & Barrel Ranch, Wine Country’s premier members-only sporting club for discerning outdoor, food, and wine enthusiasts, has a limited number of member spots remaining.

Only 35 miles north of San Francisco, Wing & Barrel Ranch is located on a superb parcel totaling nearly 1,000 acres. Amenities include seasonal upland bird hunting, year-round sporting clays, an outdoor shooting range, an indoor handgun range, a fully stocked 1.5-acre fishing pond, custom-designed bocce courts, and outdoor archery as well as such refined amenities as winemaker dinners with Vintner Members, private fine dining, onsite store, dog training and boarding, an exclusive cigar program, and private wine storage, among other offerings.

‍

The hunting club is on San Pablo Bay in southeast Sonoma County. With views of the Mayacamas and Sonoma Mountain ranges, Mt. Tamalpais and Mt. Diablo, this is a sanctuary where members can escape to the country. Wing & Barrel Ranch membership keeps alive the traditions of the sporting and hunting life and ensures that many generations to come will enjoy this land. Wing & Barrel Ranch offers a unique opportunity for an elite cadre of sportsmen, women, and their families to immerse themselves in the luxurious outdoor experience that embodies the Wine Country lifestyle.

‍

Wing & Barrel Ranch features a world-class sporting clays course designed by master shooter Chris Batha. As his only West Coast Sporting Clays Course, the 25-acre Vintners Shooting Grounds feature 15 fully automated shooting stations, each containing three shooting positions displaying over 90 different target presentations.

‍

The club is home to 24 hunting fields – mostly for quail and pheasant in Sonoma – as well as 15 different stations at which guests can shoot clays. There is also a pond where guests and members can fly fish. The vibe is low key and relaxed as guests drive around the property in open cars, akin to golf carts.

‍

As one of just 12 Premium Beretta Dealers in the U.S. and the only Purdey dealer in California, Wing & Barrel Ranch offers an exceptional opportunity to purchase shotguns directly from the gunmakers.

The new clubhouse from architect Michael Guthrie with an interior design by Napa’s Shawback Design marries hunting traditions with modern art.

‍

Renowned Chef Charlie Palmer, Wing & Barrel Ranch's Culinary Advisor, has designed the clubhouse Dining Room and kitchen which will offer members and their guests full-service dining throughout the year, featuring fresh, seasonal menus reflecting the bounty of the land. The Chef’s herb and vegetable garden combined with locally sourced meat, wild game and fish will provide exceptional ingredients available for members to enjoy in the dining room, bar and on the deck overlooking the expansive view. The dining program is rivaled only by its wine offerings.

‍

The Trap Bar features a broad collection of whiskey, bourbon and craft spirits to enjoy on the adjacent deck overlooking spectacular views of wine country. The fireplace lounge will offer a gathering place for socializing.

‍

A Wing & Barrel Ranch membership offers exceptional experiences with our winemaker members, enjoying monthly Winemaker Series shoots, lunches and dinners. A sense of authenticity emerges when members have the opportunity to access carefully selected winemakers from the region’s finest wineries, all expert shooters or dedicated hunters.
