Sept. 15, 2026 — B&P Pro Team shooters Gebben and Karen Miles delivered a commanding series of performances at the inaugural NSCA/CPSA World Super Sporting Championship, held September 3–6 at Northbrook Sports Club in Hainesville, Illinois.

Headlining the weekend, Gebben Miles captured High Overall (HOA) honors in the 200-target World Super Sporting Championship, breaking 186 of 200 targets to become the inaugural champion. Gebben added another victory during the weekend by claiming HOA in the Village Prelim Sporting event, completing an exceptional showing against a field of elite sporting clays competitors.

Karen Miles delivered an equally impressive championship performance. She captured the Ladies Championship in the World Super Sporting Championship while finishing fourth overall among the entire field, an accomplishment that placed her among the very best competitors at the inaugural event.

Her success carried over to the Northbrook Cup FITASC, where Karen once again claimed the Ladies Championship and finished fourth overall, giving her two Ladies titles and two top-five overall finishes during the championship weekend.

The inaugural World Super Sporting Championship brought together the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) and the United Kingdom’s Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) to establish a new international championship for the Super Sporting discipline. The 200-target championship challenged competitors across three courses over three days at Northbrook Sports Club, placing a premium on target reading, adaptability and consistency across a wide variety of presentations.

For Gebben, becoming the inaugural World Super Sporting HOA Champion adds another significant title to an already extensive competitive résumé.

Hardcore Waterfowl’s Rugged Series Magnum Black Duck Decoy

Sept. 14, 2026 — MUSKEGON, Mich. –There was a time the black duck was the duck of the Northeast, the default bird in a Chesapeake blind, Maine tidal marshes, and more common than the mallard is today. That changed quickly, though, and the story of why is worth knowing before you ever set a decoy for one.

An Eastern Bird, Mostly

Black ducks belong to the Atlantic Flyway, with a smaller presence spilling into the Mississippi Flyway to the west. Breeding grounds run from eastern Manitoba and Ontario across the eastern Canadian provinces and down into the Great Lakes and Northeast, with the heaviest concentrations nesting in Maine and Nova Scotia.

Come fall, most of that population funnels down the Atlantic Coast, with the biggest wintering numbers packed into the marshes between Long Island and the Carolinas, stretching as far south as the Gulf Coast and Florida. Hunters further inland aren’t entirely out of luck, however, as smaller numbers follow river systems like the Tennessee, Detroit, and Upper Illinois well away from saltwater, but for most of the country, a black duck in the bag is still a genuinely rare bird.

A Long Road Back

Between the 1950s and 1980s, black duck numbers fell by more than half, a collapse driven by overharvest, vanishing salt marsh habitat, and growing competition from an expanding mallard population moving into black duck territory.

Wildlife agencies responded by pulling way back. Starting in 1983, bag limits tightened hard, and in 1989 the U.S. and Canada launched the Black Duck Joint Venture to coordinate recovery across the bird’s range. It worked, to a point, numbers stabilized, though they’ve never fully recovered. Conservation groups still fall short of their habitat and population targets, but the freefall stopped, and that’s the part that matters most to hunters today.

There was also a longer-running fear tied to that mallard competition: that black ducks would eventually interbreed themselves into nonexistence, dissolving into the mallard gene pool one hybrid at a time. Genetic research has since pushed back on that, however. Roughly three-quarters of birds identified as black ducks turn out to be genetically pure, and hybrids rarely breed back into the black duck population the way biologists once assumed. The bird has held onto its identity more stubbornly than expected, one more reason the black duck’s story reads more like survival than surrender.

What the Limit Means

That history is why a black duck limit still means something. For decades, hunters were capped at one bird a day. Then, in 2017, for the first time since 1982, wildlife agencies raised the limit to two, a quiet acknowledgment that the population had stabilized enough to give hunters a little more room. It’s still half the mallard limit (check your local regs, as exact limits can vary by state and flyway), and hunters who chase them know exactly why. It’s not a technicality. It’s the tradeoff that kept the bird on the marsh long enough to earn that second bird.

Black duck hunters tend to reflect that restraint. They know the regs, they know the bird’s history, and they show up prepared rather than hopeful. Late to the Marsh

Black ducks hunt differently than the season’s earlier arrivals. They’re some of the last birds to move, often holding their home marshes until ice or a dwindling food supply forces the issue, and much of that migration happens at night, in loose groups of a dozen or two.

When they do show, they’re rarely alone. Black ducks mix freely with mallards, feeding and loafing together in the same small marshes and backwaters, which means a sharp eye is doing as much work as a good call: darker body, grayer head, a brighter white flash under the wing.

That habit of the small marsh over the big water is exactly why black ducks have never demanded a mallard-sized rig. They naturally sit in small, scattered groups, and a spread that mimics that reads more honest than a wall of decoys ever could.

Sized for Visibility, Not Volume

Hardcore’s answer to that wary reputation is size, but not in the way you’d guess. Black ducks aren’t dramatically bigger than mallards in the wild. They’re close cousins in build, and in coloration they read like a darker, higher-contrast version of a hen mallard.

B&P Pro Team shooter Macie Page continued her remarkable run at the top of international Helice competition, capturing her third consecutive Ladies Helice World Championship during the 2026 World Helice Championship competition in Braga, Portugal.

The World Championship victory – following titles in 2024 and 2025 – headlined an extraordinary week for Page. Frederick Beesley Opens a British Workshop and a Kings Road Shopfront

The 1879 name takes a bench in South Wales, where every Beesley will now be finished and regulated, and a Chelsea gunroom that doubles as a club for Beesley owners

CHELSEA, LONDON — 3 September 2026 — Frederick Beesley, the London gunmaking name founded in 1879, has opened a workshop in South Wales and a shop at 488 Kings Road in Chelsea. Every gun the house builds will now be finished, regulated and signed off on its own British bench, and sold from its own London door.

The workshop is run by Scott Morgan, Head Beesley Gunsmith, a trained engineer by trade who learned his gunsmithing at UK Gun Repairs in Somerset and has been at the bench for twenty years. The work is overseen by Brad Davis, Head of Production, who represented Great Britain for over a decade at world-class level in the Olympic shotgun disciplines and brings an unusually deep understanding of sporting shotguns, and by Tom Ward, director of the house. The bench will also carry out repair, servicing and regulating for clients of Beesley and its sister house, London Gun Company, on guns of any make.

Beesley guns are designed, specified and controlled by the house, gun by gun rather than to a standard pattern. Actions and barrels are built in Italy to that specification, each gun a unique project. Every gun is now finished and regulated at the South Wales workshop — which means the bench that brings a new gun to its final specification is the bench that will service it for the rest of its working life.

Beesley has until now occupied a space within London Gun Company’s shop at 498 Kings Road. At 488 it takes premises of its own — the first London address given over to Beesley guns alone since the firm left 2 St James’s Street in 1939. The premises carry Beesley guns and nothing else: the full range on view, and the room in which a client designs and orders their own. It is also a club for Beesley owners, with a bar and a cigar lounge, where members can bring guests and spend an evening among other people who shoot. London Gun Company’s shop further along the Kings Road continues to handle the armoury, servicing, valuations and sales across all makes.

The house’s sporting agency has been named the Beesley Sporting Agency and is headed by Miles Orford, who joined in 2020 and arranges in excess of 100 days a year across Britain, Europe, the Americas and Africa. Each day is curated around the client — quarry, location and accommodation, transport, permits and ammunition, and where it is called for, helicopters, cigars, socks and toothpaste. Clients are welcomed at 488 Kings Road to plan a season or a trip in person. Between the gunroom, the club and the agency, a client can commission a gun, store it, maintain it and arrange the days it is used on from a single address.

In the United States, F. Beesley USA is run from Manhattan by Ian Harrison, formerly director of Beretta’s premium gun division, who was appointed VP of North American Sales in May 2025. He is a salaried employee of the house rather than an agent or distributor, covering the country in person, handling both sales and aftercare for American clients, and representing Beesley at the essential American exhibitions — Safari Club International and Dallas Safari Club — and at private events through the season.

“A gun finished on our own bench is a gun we can stand behind without qualification, and one we can look after for the rest of its life,” said Tom Ward, director of Frederick Beesley and London Gun Company. “The Kings Road is the other half of it — our owners have known each other for years and had nowhere to sit down together. We needed both, and now we have them.”

Frederick Beesley was the author of some twenty-five patents, among them the 1880 self-opening action that James Purdey still builds today, and around 1,800 guns were made under his name. The firm ceased production in 1937 and the name passed through other hands for much of the century that followed. In 2014 Tom Ward and his father Gary acquired it outright — the name, the order book, the Royal Warrant and the archive — and returned it to production.

Depending on the brief, a new Beesley can take up to a thousand hours of handwork and twelve months from order to delivery, with the client’s specification shaping the gun throughout.

August 27, 2026 — Remington announces the availability of its new Royal Flush Grouse & Quail loads. The speedy new small upland bird loads deliver excellent patterns at high velocities with Remington’s consistent, reliable, and deadly performance. The four new loads include two 12-ga. loads with a muzzle velocity of 1,300 fps, and two 20-ga. loads with a muzzle velocity of 1,220 fps. These new products are being delivered to dealers nationwide.
